Balatonfüred is one of our favourite summer destinations — a lively lakeside town full of flowers, well-kept parks, and plenty of life along the promenade. We love wandering there in the evenings, when the light over Lake Balaton turns soft and the day begins to wind down.
This painting is a memory of one of those evenings. The Jókai, a historic paddle steamer that has been sailing Lake Balaton for generations, was just leaving the port on one of its evening excursions. In the background, the outline of Tihany Abbey appears through the haze — a familiar landmark that always makes the view feel a little special.
The sky that evening had that beautiful mix of pink and grey that I always love, and I wanted to capture something of that mood and that moment.
